PLANED is pleased to announce the new position of Community Led Housing Officer, joining our growing regional team based in Narberth.
Sarah Foster, a chartered surveyor with over 30 years experience of housing development, planning consultancy and community engagement, brings her knowledge to this new role, funded by Pembrokeshire Councils’ Shared Prosperity Fund through the The UK’s Levelling Up Fund .
The appointment will enable us to expand our work with communities in Pembrokeshire. Focussing specifically on the need for affordable rented housing, we will be able to support and guide communities through the process of creating Community Land Trusts, and Housing Cooperatives.
This starts with community engagement and site identification, working with housing and planning departments, other professionals and organisations, to provide homes which will stay in the ownership and control of communities in perpetuity.
The model offers local people the opportunity to acquire land or buildings for housing local people, in the form of a Community Land Trust. Managed by the community, it is a tried and tested model, enabling people to invest and work together, to take ownership and control of some of their housing stock.
Affording a home on a low wage in Pembrokeshire, particularly in rural and coastal areas is extremely difficult. Could the Community Led Housing model be the answer for you and your community?
Community led housing schemes have already been initiated in Solva, Crymych and Hermon. No two schemes are the same as no two communities are the same!
