A time capsule was buried on 10th February 2022 in the grounds of Ysgol Llanychllwydog, Cwm Gwaun. Pupils from the primary school successfully petitioned Rowan O’Neill and Sophie Jenkins from PLANED to have the time capsule buried in their garden.
The capsule relates to the radio ballad Cân Y Ffordd Euraidd / The Song of the Golden Road which the pupils and their teacher Mrs Hedydd Hughes contributed to last Summer. The capsule contains a transcript of the radio ballad, a series of self-portraits by the pupils and other items relating to the ballad including a hand-written copy of the poem Preseli by Waldo Williams and a message of good will to the future.
Pembrokeshire National Coastal Park Ranger Richard Vaughan was on hand to help dig the hole whilst ceremonial drummer Shelley Morris played a slow beat as the capsule was laid in the earth. The capsule is destined to be recovered in fifty years time.
The capsule was buried following a series of listening events hosted in local Preseli village halls during January 2022. The ballad can still be heard online at the following address: https://vimeo.com/642288464
