What is a micro care service?
A small care or support business that helps people to live independently and well in their own homes and communities. Often, they are self-employed but could be a small Limited Company employing up to eight people. They can provide a range of services including:
- Home help – cleaning, preparing meals, gardening etc.
- Companionship and support to access social groups and activities
- Support with personal care needs

What support is available for me to set up and develop?
The Catalysts for Care project provides free 1-1 support to set up your own micro care service. Lee James (Pembrokeshire), Tracey Jones (Carmarthenshire), or Sue Lewis (Ceredigion) will take you through an action plan to set-up and become part of the West Wales Directory of Micro Care Services.
Once you are set-up and part of the directory, you can join our network of micro care service leads to connect with each other. We post monthly newsletters to stay updated and have WhatsApp groups enabling micro care services to share useful info, signpost clients and arrange cover. We also have an enquiry form system to access work enquiries from both families and signposting professionals.

After an initial chat, Lee, Laura or Sue will take you through an action plan outlining everything you need to do to set up legally, safely and professionally.
Once you have completed the action plan, we will ask you to commit to our ‘Doing it Right’ standards confirming that you have achieved everything on the action plan and that you are responsible for upholding these standards in your service going forward. This enables you to be part of the directory and join our peer support network.
Once you have launched your service, you can still access advice and support from Lee / Laura/ Sue and the peer support network.
